How to Permanently Remove/Hide Adobe Reader DC Tools Pane – Guide
If you want to hide the navigation panel, it can be a little confusing because it is easy to close it if you go to the Adobe Reader DC menu and press: View > Show / Hide > Navigation Panels > Hide Navigation Panel.
Adobe Reader DC has a hidden panel that lists features like Protect and Optimize PDF. This panel is a way to upgrade to Standard or Pro version of the software.
The program has an option to hide the Extras window permanently, but it’s not as obvious as in Navigation. Maybe on purpose. There is also a hack that can make the track disappear forever. Let’s take a look at both options.
Permanently Hide Tool Panel in Acrobat Reader

In the Viewer.app file, locate the “com.apple.finder” folder and open it. In the “com.apple.finder” folder, locate the “finder” folder and open it. In the “finder” folder, locate the “icons” folder and open it. In the “icons” folder, locate the “iconthemes/com.apple.finder/ui_strings/strings/com.apple.finder_ui_strings_1b4d5c3a-e8b9-4fca-bfc2-5fcee7c8a6d7” file and open it in a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad. The file contains a list of strings that are specific to the Finder Ui string class used by com.apple.finder/.
Click the Security tab. Under User or Group Names, click Edit. Select Users and check the box next to Full Control. Apply – Ok. Again in the Properties dialog, Apply – Ok.
We need to edit the Viewer.app file to revert the changes in case we need the tools panel back.
Open the Viewer.app file and change the text to this: Right-click the Viewer.app file and click Open with Notepad.
We need to delete the text part starting with “ and ” as shown in the image.
