How to Migrate to New SmartThings App From SmartThings Classic – Guide

Samsung is discontinuing the SmartThings Classic app on October 14, 2020. If you use this app for your home, it’s time to move to the new SmartThings app. We will show you how to migrate your data. As of October 14, 2020, it will no longer be possible to use the SmartThings Classic app to create and manage routines, Lock Code Manager or Smart Home Monitor. It will just serve as a simple user interface to control devices. If you are no longer using the app as a glorified light switch, switch to the new SmartThings app. Here, you can access all your routines and smart apps while enjoying some new ones. features such as automations and lighting groups.

The SmartThings app has a different user interface that takes a little getting used to, but has the same functionality as the Classic app. Before you start using the new SmartThings app, we want to migrate your existing routines, home monitor and smart locks. Your other settings will be transferred automatically when you log in to the new app. To make sure you don’t miss any of your classic SmartThings, Lock Code Manager and Smart routines Home Monitor data, you will need to migrate to the new app before October 14th. How to Migrate to the new SmartThings app from SmartThings Classic

Once you have opened the app, tap on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen. This will open up a menu. From here, select “Add Device.” If you are using an iPhone or iPad, we will ask you to input your Apple ID and password. If you are using an Android device, we will ask you to input your Google account information. Once you have entered your information, we will ask you to confirm that you want to add this device. If everything goes according to plan, we should now see the SmartThings Classic device listed under “Devices.” From here, all of the same instructions apply as when adding a new device from within the app - just follow the on-screen prompts. ..

To migrate your current location, tap the Migrate this location now button at the top of the screen. ..

To migrate your routines, clear the slide in the app and then click Migrate Now. ..

After completing the migration process, you will be taken back to the SmartThings Classic home screen. You will see a banner displaying This location has migrated to the new SmartThings. ..

Just tap Get Your New SmartThings Experience Now to continue your journey with the new smart home experience.

The New SmartThings app provides a way to control your home’s devices from one place. Depending on your device, the app will provide a link to Google Play Store or Apple Store.

Grant the SmartThings app permission to start using your new SmartThings account.
