How to mention Anyone in iMessage groups on iPhone/iPad – Guide

You can now tag or mention people in iMessage group chats as well as individual chats. But obviously they are most useful in group chats. You can mention anyone on iMessage who is part of the conversation. So for one-on-one chats, this only includes the other person. And for group chats, it includes everyone who is part of that group conversation. You cannot mention someone who is not a member of the group without first adding them to the group. ..
However, there is a small problem with the whole process. On your side, the other person doesn’t need to be on iOS 14 for you to mention them. Everyone in the conversation, no matter what iOS they’re on, is available for you to mention.
How to direct mention in Messages on iPhone
To join a group message, open the Messages app on your iPhone and open an existing group message.
