How to Install Qubes OS in VirtualBox – Guide
Qubes OS is a free, open-source operating system with a strong focus on security. It uses Xen-based virtualization, which allows users to quickly build, utilize, and remove isolated compartments known as qubes. To simplify understanding, each qube is built as a virtual computer that can be fully customized by specifying a purpose, nature and level of trust. To use Qubes OS on VirtualBox:
- Choose the appropriate operating system for your needs: Windows or Mac.
- Set up your virtual machine: VirtualBox provides an easy way to set up your Qubes OS VM.
- Configure your VM: In the VM’s settings, select “Qubes OS” as the operating system and “VirtualBox” as the guest operating system.
- Start your Qubes OS VM: After setting up your VM, you can start it by choosing “Start Qubes OS.”

It’s snowing up for you to choose between a dynamically allocated virtual hard disk or a fixed-size one. The fixed size option allows you to set a maximum size that will never change on the physical hard drive. The dynamically allocated option will only consume disk storage as it fills up. Eighty gigabytes is generally a good size for this type of virtual machine, but of course it all depends on your hardware and how much space is left on it.
The next step is to define the size of the virtual hard disk.
