How to install fonts in Windows 10/11 – Guide
Windows 10 comes preinstalled with several different fonts (depending on the language pack you’re using), but you can also find a ton of different fonts (free and paid) online. Installing these fonts on your Windows 10 PC is very easy. Managing fonts on Windows is a relatively simple process once you know where to find what you’re looking for. And what we’re looking for in this case is a built-in font management system that hides in the Windows Control Panel. Windows 11 comes with a lot of fonts, but offers several options for users who aren’t satisfied with Arial, Georgia and Times New Roman to install their own.
This guide will show you how to install fonts on Windows 11 or 10. The first method is through the Microsoft Store, which can be found in the Settings app. The second method is through File Explorer, which can be found in the left pane of your Windows 10 or 11 desktop.
How to install fonts through the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 or 10
- Open the Microsoft Store and sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “New font.”
- In the “Name” field, type a new name for your font and click on “Create.”
- In the “Description” field, provide a brief description of your new font.
- Click on “Install.”
- When you finish installing your new font, you will see a message that says it is now installed and working properly.
Microsoft has a new store on Windows 11 that you can access by searching for “Microsoft Store” through the Start menu. If you’ve removed the store from your taskbar and Start menu, you can get to it by searching for “Microsoft Store” in the Windows 11 search bar.
Fonts is a search term that appears in the top search bar. A results menu will appear, and “Fonts” should be the main result. It’s easy to identify if it isn’t, however, because it has a nondescript icon and the caption “Explore New Fonts.” Click.

We’ll select “Convection” because it looks like a fun sans serif we might want in our collection, but the steps will be the same for any of the fonts you choose, so choose the option that catches your eye.

Since the “Free” button switch to “Open”, you can use the font you chose. However, clicking on the “Open” button button will not actually display the font. This simply leads to the Personalization section of the Settings app, which is exactly where we’d go next.
How to install fonts through Settings in Windows 11 or 10
To install fonts through the Settings app, you will need to first download a TrueType, OpenType, or PostScript file. Many websites offer a variety of free fonts, usually created by the user. If you are looking for a professional designed font, you can find them in a variety of markets. However, be careful when downloading it so that you can minimize your potential exposure to malicious files. With all that said, here is how to install fonts through the Settings app:
- Open the Settings app and click on the General tab.
- Scroll down and click on Fonts.
- Click on the Add button and select a font from the list.
- Click on OK to add the font to your computer.
- Close the Settings app and restart your computer.

You can then leave the program window open or move the file to your desktop, which is what we did in the screenshot below with Google’s Roboto font. To install a new font, select the “Fonts” option on the main page of your computer. This will bring up a page with your installed fonts and, most importantly, a way to add new ones.
Drag the downloaded font to the appropriate box in Settings and select multiple files within the folder to install it.

How to install fonts via File Explorer on Windows 11
To install fonts through File Explorer, open File Explorer and click on the three lines in the top left corner of the window. This will show you a list of files that are currently installed on your computer. To select a file, right-click on it and select “Open with”. Then, click on the “Install” button.
Windows 10: To locate the downloaded font, open File Explorer and navigate to the Downloads folder. If you saved the source elsewhere, you can use the Windows 11 or 10 search tool to locate it. ..
Unzip the file. If you downloaded the font as a ZIP file, you can right-click, choose “Extract All…” from the menu and click “Extract” in the window that appears.
To install fonts, select the files you need.
Windows 10 users can skip this step.
After clicking on the ‘Install’ button, a progress window should appear, asking if you want to install the font for all users or just for your own account. If you choose to install the font for all users, then normal users will not be able to use it. However, if you choose to install the font only for your own account, then other normal users can use it.
Preview and install fonts. You can also skip all this by right-clicking opening the face (or faces) of the font you want to install directly. This will show a default preview of the font you are about to add and if you still want you can click the “Install” button button. ..
