How to Disable Insert Key on Windows 11 – Guide

Windows 11 is a new operating system that Microsoft has released as part of its plan to make personal computing more modern and efficient. It’s a more streamlined Windows that puts the Start menu front and center, eliminating some of the clutter that can get in the way. The new operating system also features some welcome improvements, such as a more focused Start button. However, many of these changes are so subtle that you might not even NOTICE them unless you’re specifically looking for them. And even the changes that catch your eye - like the newly focused Start button - quickly fade into the background.

Disable a keyboard key in Windows 11 using PowerToys

Once you have downloaded Microsoft PowerToys, open it and click on the “Install” button. After installation is complete, open the “PowerToys” folder and locate the “Keyboard Manager” file. Double-click on the “Keyboard Manager” file to start its installation. After keyboard manager is installed, you will need to restart your computer for it to take effect.

If you are new to GitHub.com, or if you have not yet downloaded a release from the GitHub.com website, please look for the “Active” section on the latest release page and click on the PowerToysSetup executable installer (.exe) to download it. The screenshot above is from October 2021. You will be able to see a later version of PowerToys at the time you download it.

PowerToys has a built-in auto-update feature that will automatically update to the latest version when there is a new update version. This means that even if you download and install an older version of PowerToys, PowerToys can automatically update to the latest version if the “Download updates automatically” option is enabled. You don’t need to manually download the latest version to have it up until the present date. ..

After downloading the installer, run it to install PowerToys. When setup asks if you want to allow PowerToys to run automatically at Windows startup, we recommend allowing it as PowerToys need to run in the background for whatever setting you have applied to take effect.

To use PowerToys, first install it from the desktop or Start. If nothing happens after running the PowerToys, go to the corner of the taskbar and double-click the PowerToys icon to bring up your window.

To remap a key in the PowerToys window, click Keyboard Manager in the left pane. Make sure the “Enable Keyboard Manager” option is enabled. Then click Remap a key.

The “Remap a key” feature lets you remap a keyboard key to any other key or key combination. You can also remap a key to a function called “Undefined” that will make the key do absolutely nothing when pressed.

In the “Remap keys” window, click the plus sign (+) button to add a key mapping. Then click Type and press the key you want to disable. For example, as shown in the screenshot below, I am disabling the Windows key.

The keyboard key will not work if you select “Undefined” from the drop-down menu when you map it to a specific key.

When you have a keymapping successfully set to Undefined, Keyboard Manager displays the keymap as an undefined symbol. ..

To remove the mapping for a key, go to the Keyboard Manager and click Remap a key. Then click Delete Remapping for the keymapping you want to remove.
