How to Customize Navigation Bar on Android – Guide

Android Oreo has just been released, and with it comes a slew of new features, optimizations and new visuals. With the improvements also come new APIs, and with them more unofficial goodies that we can access a little tinkering with. Now you can install the system image, and you can also customize the navigation bar, just like in the developer previews! The navigation bar modification also existed in Android Nougat hidden in plain sight, but it was made available to users for a while in the first two developer previews of Android O only to be removed along with other tuners with the confirmation message stating “they are not there yet”.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to edit the navigation bar in developer views or later in Nougat. Only the user-facing menu option has been removed, but it is still fully accessible if you know how to Access via ADB or use a 3rd party application. We recommend that you install a custom navigation bar tuner from the Google Play Store as it offers a nice GUI front end for the custom navigation bar tuner which has been removed from developer previews and offers much more features to boot.
